After reading the story The Grouchy Ladybug we are making our own ladybugs!

We have two caterpillars that have begun to spin their cocoons.  We wonder will we have beautiful butterflies soon?  We are keeping a watchful eye as the changes are occurring.  Science and wonder!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.  The caterpillar sure did eat a lot of food before becoming a butterfly. On Monday he are an apple, on Tuesday he ate two pears, Wednesday he ate three plums .... we are recording the food he ate each day.  Recalling the sequence of the story.

We are drawing and recording four things that make us grouchy.  Fine motor, creativity and literacy skills.

May 14-18

The children were able to get all the rocks in our bucket once again.
A rock is placed in our bucket for extraordinary behavior.  Like working very
quietly, being respectful of other classes teachers, just being extra kind.
When all the rocks are in the bucket we celebrate.
We did two fun activities to celebrate.
The first activity involved a gift that was wrapped up several times.  The children
pass the gift around while music is playing,  When the music stops
a layer of wrap is undone.  When all the layers are gone there is a
surprise for the class to share!

The second activity involved a game of hockey.  Where two children
at a time were able to play against each other.
What fun!

The fruit salad was delicious.  Thank you so much for sending in the fruit.
Most children had a couple of bowls.
We will be looking at the map this week.

I brought in a train track for learning centre time.  The children have been
enjoying helping each put in together. Cooperation, social conversation, turn taking, fine motor control and fun all in one activity!

This work job was butterflies of different sizes.  The children colored them, cut them out and glued
them onto a strip of paper from smallest to largest.

Work job #2 - making a shape on the geoboard and then copy your shape onto a paper geoboard.
Fine motor and creativity.

Work job #3 - Find the sight words in a sentence and color them the code color.
Visual perception and sight word recognition.

Work job #4 - create an insert using any of the available materials.

Our beautiful insects.  Creativity at its best!

May 7-11

Kindergarten B raised  the third highest amount of money for Kenya
and earned a prize.  We decided to watch a movie, wear party hats and have popcorn.
We invited KA to join us for the movie and popcorn.

The salon heads were quite a hit.  The hairdos were beautiful.
The children worked on their fine motor, creativity and social skills.

More fine motor control.  Lots of nails to be hammered!

Some insects crawl, hop and jump!
I have to draw one of each and then
count how many of each type there are in the container.
Creativity, math, and fine motor!

We really like the train train track.
There is no right or wrong way to put it together.
Teamwork, social conversation, problem-solving and fun!

How many frogs have stripes? Stars? or Dots?
Counting, sorting and tallying!

Beautiful butterflies, first we drip paint on the paper,
fold it over and rub well, trace the butterfly outline
cut it out and then unfold to reveal your beautiful butterfly!

Ker Plunk this is a game that requires teamwork and
concentration.  Oh I hope that if I carefully pull out my
stick that no marbles will drop.
Lots of laughter and conversation to be heard.

 Ants In My Pants!
Lots of fun and laughter at this activity as well.
It is harder than it looks to get the ants into the pants!

The writing table continues to be a busy area.
The writing and drawing continues to
develop with more detail and quality!

R worked really hard at the writing table he was making
cars for his cousins.

April 30-May3

 Teamwork and matching words!

Green is a nice color for my birdhouse.
Fine motor and creativity!

 Beautiful Birdhouse!

Another beautiful creatively painted birdhouse!

 Building the birdhouse was fun!

 Our finished birdhouses.
We take them home this week.

Capacity
I wonder which cup will hold the most sand?
Predicting and then actually finding out!

Making a book on the life cycle of the frog.
We will be watching to see if our tadpoles
grow and change into frogs.

This cutting on a straight line is more difficult than it looks.

Making spring caterpillars.  Zoey's is crawling under a flower.
Imagination, creativity and social conversation.

We added our caterpillars to our flowers on our wall of art.

Spring is in the air our hallway  tree has some beautiful caterpillars on it.

We love using an assortment of materials for making art!

Teamwork is what it is all about.  Ramsay helped Carley to get the
nails hammered in on the roof of her birdhouse.

The children have donned their safety glasses and are ready to construct birdhouses!

After building the painting begins!
