May 16 - 20 More on Ladybugs and Insects!!!

Part part whole – look at the number on the ladybug, count the dots on his wing, find another wing with the number of required dots to complete the number!

Make your own insect using the Plasticine!

Ladybug Fly Home boardgame.  There are six ladybugs numbered from 1 – 6.  If there are three players each player chooses two ladybugs.  When a person rolls the dice whoever is that number on the game moves.

Making your own Spring book

We spend some time enjoying the file folder games.

Creating our own unique ladybugs!  This was a three day process.  First you draw grouchy, happy, sad, and excited pictures.  Second you paint paper plates red. Third you cut out and attach the head and them paint this body paper plate black, and add black spots to your dry red plate.  Next you cut out your pictures and glue to the shell of the body.  With the assistance of Mrs. Dumville the red doted plate is cut in half and a paper fastener is used to attach the wings to the body.  The ladybugs are very vibrant!

We were invited into Mr. MacDonald’s grade one class.  The class published a procedural writing booklets on how to make a caterpillar.  The grade one students teamed up with the kindergarten students and created caterpillars.  Soon the beans will grow and be the bodies.  Grade one did an awesome job of guiding the kindergarten children and following the directions.  Thank you grade one and Mr. MacDonald.

Another puzzle completed – great teamwork!!!

Turn and talk is a strategy we use in the class.  It is very interesting how challenging this can be for some students.  Once the conversation begins the classroom is humming.  One students talks, another students listens and then they switch.  I asked the students to tell each other what they were going to do after school.

Our completed plasticine insects!  Each one was unique.  We used Barbara Reid’s blending strategy to change the color of the plasticine.  Ask your child how this was done.

Chromebooks -  most of the students were able to login independently.

We made a batch of flubber!  The students thoroughly enjoyed this fun learning centre!

Who is under the blanket?  Which classmate is missing?  Ask your child to explain how to play this game.

May 2 - 5 Learning with The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Color the spring flowers the color on the code chart.

Butterfly Symmetry – Add the same shapes to the butterfly wing to make it symmetrical.

Roll and cover the caterpillar.  It went one step farther and requested that you add one more to the number you rolled and cover that number so if you rolled a 3 you would cover #4.  A different caterpillar asked you to roll the dice and cover that number that was one less.

Color the food that the hungry caterpillar ate and then cut out the food and make a graph.

The children really enjoy puzzles this year and they are really good at putting them together.

Listening centre fun!

Some mother and baby match cards.

We are enjoying the book Mr. Zinger’s Hat!

Buckles was a guest as we learned all about safety in the water!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mom’s!  I hope you enjoyed your special flower.
