May 15 - 19 ~~~~ Goldilocks and The Three Bears continues

Our Goldilocks and The Three Bears hallway display.  Lots of fun learning happening here, from creative art, to numbers- more, less, almost the same as, literacy with guided writing.

Guided writing the students wrote a letter to the three bears from Goldilocks.

We were using the whiteboards for literacy and math. I decided we should do a listen and draw activity.  The cows and cats turned out really well!

Our last two groups to act out Goldilocks and The Three Bears.  Lots of different voice tones were used.

Some outdoor recess pictures!

Mother’s Day or a family day card.  Each child wanted to make a card to give to someone in their family.

Alex celebrated her 6th birthday.  Happy Birthday Alex!

Chenoa is our final Star of the Week! Congratulations Chenoa!

Carleigh arrived with new sunglasses!  They look awesome!

Merie was in from Island Waste Watch Corporation.  She did a wonderful job of her presentation.  The students now know if the clothing they are wearing is stretchy chances are that they are made from recycled plastic bottles.  They thought it was quite funny that they were actually wearing water bottles.

Concept of spoken word we used an overhead projector and as a student said a sentence they pushed up a bingo marker for each word they as they said the word.  Words like wonderful are tricky as sometimes a student would push up 3 bingo markers as they said the word slowly.

Some learning centre fun activities!

Nevaeh K., brought in a book to read to the class.  She did a wonderful job of learning … great expression and very fluent.

May 1 - 4 ~~~~~ Dinosaurs, Science and fun filled learning!

Scarlett celebrated her 6th birthday. Happy birthday Scarlett!

We created a dinosaur story with landscape, volcanoes, dinosaurs, a meteorite, the sun, black ash, trees, rocks, and water.

This math work job consisted of each child getting a baggie with items in it.  The children were to count the objects, and record the number of each object in their bag.

Read it, Build it, and write it.  Put a fish sight word at the top. Build the word with letter tiles and then print the sight word.

Gone Buggy - roll the dice, put that amount of bugs on your jar. If you roll the fly swatter remove one bug.  If you roll the bug spray all your bugs go back in the dish.  When the work job is over record how many of each color of bugs are in your jar.

Sink or Float.  First put your name on the sheet. Color and cut out the pictures of the items.  Take turns dropping an object into the water.  Glue the picture of the item under sink or float.

Benjamin is our Star of the Week this week. Congratulations Benjamin!

We have been talking about ten frames and part, part, whole.  This ten frame has six parts spiders, four parts empty boxes and when you put them together the whole amount is ten.

I read the book Ducks Don’t Get Wet by Augusta Goldin.  I said if the children found two feathers outside we would test out the experiment.  I took one feather and rubbed oil over it and we placed both feather in a container of water.  Both floated.

The life cycle of the frog is a popular puzzle.  Nevaeh and Benjamin worked hard to complete the puzzle.

Marbleworks is also a popular choice at learning centre time.  The tubes can be put together many ways.  It is interesting to watch the reaction when they drop the marble in the top and watch to  see if the marble will go through the tubes.

If the children would rather choose something from the shelf instead of the learning centres that are available this is fine.  Today the boys choice a container of dice.
