May 19 - 23 Insects with a focus on Lady Bugs!

Our Ladybug Display!

Find the insects around the room and print the insect related words!

Create your own Ladybug or Butterfly!

Our beautiful and artistic wall of art display, we noticed that 15 people created a butterfly or ladybugs 10 people chose to create a butterfly and 5 people created a ladybug!

Roll the dice and see which ladybug will race to the top.

Making our insect fact booklet!

Alphabetical order, match game, matching upper and lowercase ladybugs, rhyme game.  After the games where explained each I gave each team a captain to organize the activities.

We had a hair salon with doll heads and a horse head for the children to make beautiful.  Jack suggested we also add scissors to the centre so the plastic playdough scissors were added they did not really cut the hair.  The velcro rollers, elastics, clips, hair dryer and curling iron kept the children really busy trying to create the latest fashion hair!

The wood working centre was also a big  hit!  The children had to wear safety glasses for this centre.  The hammers were really busy as they hammered nails into the wood and also tried to get the nails out.  Many fine motor skills are being put to work at this centre.  I believe a few fingers were also hit by the hammer in the process.

The paint easel is always a popular centre.  The children are amazing artists!

Some other learning centre time activities!

The children are really enjoying the time with me or Ms. B playing a game at learning centre time!  Here we are playing Ladybug Fly Home! Playing games in a wonderful, fun way to encourage cooperation, taking turns, and good sportsmanship!

The writing centre is open each day.  Molly was writing and writing. She made beautiful notes for Gemma and Lydia!  Great  writing Molly!

Friendship Salad is a part of our social studies.  We learned that fruit is grown in many countries.  It is picked, packaged, stored in a cool place and is shipped, flown or maybe put on a train to come to the stores where we can go and buy the fruit.  The grapes that we used in our salad came all the way from Chile.

Here we are enjoying our fruit salad!

May 11 - 15 Goldilocks and The Three Bears

Benjamin was our Star of the Week!  Congratulations Ben!  All of the children have now had a turn to be star of the week.

We compared the setting, characters, and the beginning, the middle and end of three different Goldilocks and The Three Bears stories. In two stories Goldilocks jumped out the window when the bears woke her and in one story she ran out the door, all stories took place in the woods in a cottage.

We chose our favorite chair, bed, bear and cereal!  Lots of math happening here; which one had more, less was there any that had the same amount?

Creating Goldilocks or a bear for our art wall each one was unique!  Lots of creativity going on at this work job

Bradley from grade 5 came to read a story to our class!  Thank you Bradley!

Our completed wall of art!  I think it looks wonderful!

Working on creating a map to follow to find the Bears home, first the legend and compass rose were made and then the map was created.

Writing a letter to the three bears for Goldilocks!

Mrs. DesRoches was helping with some words for the speech bubble activity!

We are working together in teams to complete the story map for Goldilocks and The Three Bears.  Each group worked together to draw the details.

During learning centre time we are enjoying a game of Tic Tac Toe!

Deciding which bear, bed, cereal and chair you would chose.  It was a tough decision.

Buzz Lightyear has arrived!

The ladies decided they needed to have a little rest during learning centre time.

Cali worked hard to finish this puzzle.  Great work Cali!

Some learning centre time activities!

Mrs. Clark our Literacy Coach was in she did a lesson on  I'm Not Afraid Of My Words.  The children are encouraged to attempt to write using the sounds that they hear.  We set the timer for 15 minutes and the children went to work.  When the timer buzzed the children groaned  they were not finished.  So I set it for 5 for minutes.  Then we had to have snack and little recess.  When the children came back in they wrote for another 15 minutes and then Mrs. Clark shared a couple of the children's writings.  It was amazing.  Colton kept saying I'm not afraid of my words!

Jordan and Colton enjoying a game of Ants in Sponge Bob's Pants with Ms. B.!

The children are very involved in their writing!  They really enjoyed the mini lesson with Ms. Clark!

Ms. Campbell an EA at our school dropped in t o show the children how she helped Kash make a bouquet of flowers for his Mom.  She offered to help the kindergarten children make a flower as well.  There was not enough time for everyone to make one today.  Everyone who wants to make one will have a turn.  The flowers are beautiful!  Thank you Ms. Campbell!

Enjoying books with our grade 4 Book Buddies!
