Working together to make the Chicka Boom Puzzle!

Finding the letters in our name for our bracelets or necklaces!

Kanga has magnetic lowercase letters in her pouch... pick a letter out and find and color it on your sheet.  If you do not know the name of the letter ask your friends!

Creating our favorite describing letter in the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom story was it patched up f, black eyed p, lose toothed p, skinned knee d, or maybe stubbed toe e.

A color sentence strip poem!

What fun the Chicka Boom Board game was .. counting, turn taking and laughter!

The counting jar ... count the objects in the basket, represent that number of items and print the number and number word!

Playdough ten frame mats!  Use playdough to make the number of coconuts and also use playdough to make the number!

Roll the dice, record the number which number will race to the top of your sheet.  Some fun cards to show you how to make the numbers!

Learing centre fun!

The Chicka Boom Tree made a visit to the classroom aka: Mrs. MacNeill.  The children each had turns adding letters to the tree as I read the story.  Thanks Mrs. MacNeill!

Some fine looking hats... some children decided they did not want to wear their hats and that was fine too!

A math activity ... by using the children we created an AB pattern!

For book buddy time we created our own Chicka Boom Snack.  We made a recipe list and followed it and then we got to eat our snack!

Ms. B brought in a real coconut, we talked about how it felt, looked, sounded,  smelled and tasted.  A very special thank you to Mr. Grady who brought in his cordless drill and hammer to open the coconut.  Not to may liked the taste of the coconut milk and just a few liked the taste of the coconut.

The class  chicka boom tree using a piece of stove pipe, paper palm tree leaves and magnetic letters!

I introduced turn and talk in the classroom.  It is a great way to encourage the art of conversation.  One child talks or asks a question and the other student listens and then responds..  With some tole modeling the children were getting into this activity.  ex  What is your favorite movie?  I liked that movie too, my favorite part was when . . .

Our Terry Fox walk, it was a beautiful day for a walk.  Special thank you to Hannah, Sherry, Shawn, and Mitchell some leadership students who walked with our class.  We also enjoyed the ice cream cones  donated from Johnathan owner of Cooke's Corner after our walk! Thank you!

Our hallway display.  We invited the grade one students to put their names in the bag and every time we walk past the name poem if it is a grade one name on it we change it and count how many letters are in our name.  This is a fun activity for letter recognition and counting and recognizing numbers!  All of our pictures are going up the Chicka Boom Tree!
