May 21 - 25 Week # 2 ~ Goldilocks and The Three Bears

Last group to act out the story …
The actions and voices were awesome!

The learning outcomes that we worked on
 with this fun theme!
So much learning the children have been talking
about mapping and the compass rose.
Ask your child about the compass rose and the map key.

This work job was a story map. The children
drew about the story, setting, characters,
beginning, middle and end of the story

Writing a letter to the three bears for Goldilocks.

Drawing a map to help Goldilocks
 find the Three Bears House,
adding the compass rose and map key.

What would you say if… example
you were Papa Bear and saw
Goldilocks sleeping in Baby Bears Bed.
There was a lot of Grrrrrrr written. :)

Oh my! Am I seeing double?

We will be watching the life cycle
of the Frog transform before our eyes.
The children are very excited.
We have a couple of tadpoles.

Chandler turned 6!  Happy birthday Chandler!

Susan from the Forestry Dept
was in and did an awesome presentation.
The children were a wonderful audience.

They decided a good name for
the beaver would be Chompy!

Friends are wonderful!!!

Friends are wonderful!!!

The hockey sticks and a pom pom
for a puck was a big hit!

Our morning math activity was a

May 14 - 18 ~~~ Week #1 Goldilocks and The Three Bears

Merie, from Waste Watch was in and
did a wonderful presentation.
Did you know that plastic water bottles
are put in a machine and broken down into little flakes,
then it’s put in another machine and it comes out like fluff,
it is weaved and dyed and becomes material and
chances are if you are wearing clothing with
stretchy materials it has come from recycled bottles!

Goldilocks and The Three Bears
we did story maps on 4 different
versions of Goldilocks this week!

Clipboard clipping for words from Goldilocks,
when finished draw Goldilocks, the three bears
and other details about the stories.

Roll and graph which item from
Goldilocks will race to the finish?

A container of materials, patterns
of a bear or Goldilocks.  You choose, cut out assemble,
there are tracers in the dish for any clothing
you wish to add.  I love the expressions on each face.
We ended up with 7 Goldilocks and 2 bears.

Our Goldilocks display so far.
We will continue to add to it this week.
Lots of fun learning going on with this theme!

Roll 2 dice, count the dots and using a bingo
dauber dab that number on your Goldilocks sheet.
When all the numbers are dabbed, color Goldilocks.

Acting out Goldilocks and The Three Bears.
I so enjoyed hearing the different voices
 the students were using!

Some learning centre pictures!

In the water table, add a floating crocodile,
some little people, animals and  canoes.
Stand back and watch the creative stories happen.

May 7-11 ~~~ Finishing up The Gruffalo!

Finishing up The Gruffalo!

We did the story map of The Gruffalo’s Child!

Finally got to paint our fossils from Dinosaur week.
The fossils looked awesome!

Griffin wrote the morning message.
We had a discussion on where we
needed to put in some periods.
Nice work Griffin.

Gruffalo concentration card game.  Lots of fun!

The Gruffalo mouse story wheel.
Fun to take home and tell the story!

The Gruffalo and friends finger puppets.
I love listening to the students retell the story.

Put the story in sequence. Then you tell the
story to your partner and after they tell the story to you!

Connect the numbers from 1-19
and then decorate the Gruffalo!

Add the missing features to the Gruffalo.

Draw your favorite character The Gruffalo.
Add some words from the story to your work.

The complete set of The Gruffalo masks.
Color, cut out, and attach sticks to the puppets.
Have fun at home with your puppets.

The grand finale of out Gruffalo theme.
We watched The Gruffalo DVD and enjoyed
some popcorn. The children all helped transform
our classroom in a pretend theatre.

Some learning centre time pictures!

My duty day outside.  We took out the chalk
and the children had so much fun drawing
on the pavement pad.

April 30 - May 3 ~~~ The Gruffalo ~~~

Our beginning Gruffalo… I asked the students
what they thought a Gruffalo may look like
and this is the result!

Our Gruffalo chart poem!

Mr. Durant reading The Gruffalo

This work job consisted of labeling
the Gruffalo, and completing a small
Gruffalo puzzle.

Using playdough add the features
to the Gruffalo pictures.

The Gruffalo board game.  When you landed on
certain spaces you got to move forward a
few spaces or move back a few.  To win
the mouse had to get to the acorn at the finish.

Printing some Gruffalo words, when finished
draw the Gruffalo on the back of your
sheet and do a lacing wheel.
Using letter tiles make the
words from the Gruffalo story.

Lego board game.  When you land on a number
you get to choose a few Lego, or you may need
to put some Lego back.  When the game is
finished create with your Lego pieces.

Initial sounds puzzles.  Find the pictures
that go with the initial center of each puzzle.

Create your own Gruffalo.  This art work job
was lots of fun.  I put a paper bag and all
the colors needed for the Gruffalo in the tote
and the children created as they wished.

Our finished art wall with each individual,
unique Gruffalo.  I think they are fabulous!

Some of the other things we did
with the Gruffalo, the story map,
the chart poem and sequencing the story.

We acted out the story.  Each child participated.
There was a choice of using the Gruffalo masks
or the Stuffies as they acted out the story.
It was a lot of fun.  We acted it out four times
so everyone had a turn.

Reading together with a friend.
One person reads the other listens
and then they switch.

Some learning centre time pictures!

Individual pictures!
