December 9- 13 Wrapping up our Gingerbread Man Unit

The Gingerbread Man was everywhere!

We baked our own Gingerbread cookies with Mr. Acorn and the grade 8 students! It was agreed upon by all that we were great cooks!

We're Going On a Gingerbread Chase ...

After decorating our cookies we took one bite and graphed which part of the cookie we ate first!

Use a magnifying glass to find the hidden sight words and record on a sheet.

Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?  Use a magnifying glass to figure out whose fingerprints were on the cookie jar!

Each morning after the children complete their must do they have an opportunity to choice a daily five card and work on a reading or writing activity for a few minutes!

Roll the dice and graph the gingerbread item.  Which one will race to the top of the sheet?

The children have really enjoyed decorating the Christmas tree in the class!

We had the pleasure of watching a performance of the Paper Bag Princess, Mud Puddle and Pigs put on by the Theatre of Young Audiences ... the children loved the performance!

Working on a Christmas surprise!

Our big Gingerbread man was found and we ate it all up.   Then we celebrated by opening up  Gingerbread Crackers with KA!

Montana brought in some craft supplies and everyone created a Christmas scene they look great on our Wall of Art!

December 2 - 6

Upon arrival  there was a large gingerbread boy waiting on the mat.  When we went to gym, he disappeared and only left some crumbs and a note!
Our literacy workjob ... first we say the sight word, then we print it and finally we cut out the letters and build the word.

Our math workjob... roll the dice, place that many gingerbread counters in a muffin tin.  Record  to see which number will race to the top of the sheet

Our science 5 senses work job.  It was all about gumdrops- there were 5 containers with gumdrops in them the children recorded how they sounded when shook, what they smelled like, what they looked like, what they felt like and best of all what they tasted like!

We went on a hunt to see if we could find our gingerbread boy and KA's gingerbread girl.  We were not successful , we put up posters in the school so if anyone caught them they could return them to our classes.  However, we did find some small gingerbread cookies hidden in our class when we returned!  They were delicious!

Our dramatic play centre was busy making gingerbread cookies.  The girls made a large platter of cookies which smelled nearly good enough to eat!

I liked my Grammie as well.  A beautiful picture with some wonderful writing R!

November 25 - 29

The children loved Pete the Cat!  Pete loves his cool shoes!

How many people had buttons on?

We had fun changing the number of buttons on Pete's shirt!

Our creative Pete's!

Pete the Cat masks!

Pete the Cat arrived to dance and have fun with KA and KB!

Some syllable fun with Pete!

Working on a page for our class book.

Shaking the bag of glitter with our Pete shoe with some glue on it in it .... I was glad the bags did not break open!

The chairs are pretend trains are they as many as, more or less drivers?
Working on our sight words.

I wonder what shall I draw that begins with the letter v?

Mrs. Dumville helped wrap the babies in blankets - we are looking after them now!

The writing table is still a very popular area!

We are getting the paper all decorated to get ready to change our door into a Gingerbread house!

Some of the math activities we worked on for work jobs - count and clip, small, medium, or large? Sequencing Pete the Cat from small to large!

Our science work job ... begin with plain milk, add food coloring, and then dip a q-tip into soap and dip it into the milk... hold it in one place... what began to happen?

November 18 - 21

Pete the Cat left a bunch of clues to find him.  We searched for the clues and ended up back in our class.  We found a stuffed Pete and also a stand up Pete the Cat!  Special thanks to Jeff Noye foe making our Pete and to Ms. Mac for doing an awesome job of painting Pete!

Making our own Pete the Cat Books.

Roll the dice color the number and then color Pete!

Label Pete look and sound out the words to see where they belong!

Creating our very own Pete the Cat!

Memory Game of Pete

Listening to Pete " I Love My White Shoes"  on CD!

Board game of Pete ... no matter who I played with they seemed to get to the finish line before me!

We had a bride in the class and also a tiger clown! Dramatic play is wonderful for creative development and just imagine how the children are developing their motor skills , not to mention their social skills.

Each group was given some nuts and bolts ...they had to figure out was there  more, less or the same amount of nuts and bolts!

National Child Day - November 20 - a very important day to celebrate children.  KA and KB made some crowns, and a banner and we paraded through the hallways of the school.  We stopped in to see Mr. MacDonlad and presented him with a child friendly copy of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
