September 25 Blog Notes and other info…

This work job was an assortment of math jobs… count the objects and clip a clothespin on the correct number, arrange the Pete in size order, sort and count the buttons and put the puzzle together to make Pete.

Create your own Pete, cut out, glue together and details for the face, etc

Board game, roll the dice, move that number of spaces.

Each Pete had a number on him, attach that amount of buttons and then put the pictures in number order.

A completed Pete with the number 7, seven buttons are attached.

Zero the Hero made his first appearance in the class.  Each day when we do the calendar in the morning and a zero is on the calendar Zero visits, we sing a couple of Zero songs, read the book Zero and there is a zero shaped candy for each student.

Hat day… some awesome looking hats!

We were working with the whiteboards, making some letters and numbers and finally everyone drew a picture of themselves and printed their names.

We started off with a large container of magnetic letters, first we sorted by color and then everyone found the letters to make their name.

Some learning centre pictures. The skills the children are learning include, sharing, turn taking, helping each other, appropriate use of the materials, inside voices, problem solving, and creativity to name a few.

Buttons … each child was given a pile of buttons and asked to sort them.  When finished they were asked to sort in a different way.  The buttons were sorted by color, size, shape and by the number of holes on each button.  When this was finished the children were asked to make a two color pattern (AB pattern).

The children all drew their version of Pete the Cat! We have some awesome looking Pete’s!

Some of the Pete displays. The outcomes we are working on with this theme as posted. Lots of math, literacy and creative outcomes being worked on in a fun way!

Show and Tell … each day different students have a turn for show and tell.  If you are sick or absent bring your show and tell the following day.  If you forget bring it on your next Show and Tell Day.
Monday= Emily, Grace & Bransen, Tues= Harper & Emma, Wednesday = Seth & Nevaeh and Thursday = Griffin & Holden

Individual pictures of each child during learning centre time.  Each child is engaged and busy!

Our Terry Fox walk. It was a beautiful day for the walk and the grade nine students helped our class.  Thank you grade nine!

September 11-15 Blog Notes and other information

Look who’s Popping into Kindergarten!

Holden arrived last Friday afternoon.

It was all about Ss and Aa this week.  Here we are learning more about things and people who begin with Ss and the proper formation. Students made an upper and lowercase Ss and drew two items beginning with S.

Sorting items into the proper letter sounds.

Pete the Cat only has one shoe, find the other matching shoe, cut it out and glue it on with the other matching shoe.

Our Art …. Cut out color, and decorate your own rocking school shoe!

Coloring and making your own Pete The Cat book to read and take home.

Pete the Cat puzzle, lots of teamwork required to complete this work job!

Our first fire drill,  line up and go out to the three spruce trees.  The children did an awesome job!

Enjoying a game of alphabet bingo!

Our first time with our grade 4 book buddies.  Thank you grade 4.

Math is all about patterns.  We noticed some patterns in the Math Makes Sense big book, and created our own with blocks and us as well!

In the afternoon, we have learning centres.  This is the choice board.  Each day a different color gets to choose first.  We try to have two rotations.
Some learning centre pictures!

The Dot!  We read the story and using coffee filters, we signed our name with pen, used markers to make a design.

International Dot Day!  We were able to find a dot somewhere on each student.

The fun begins… we spray our marker, coffee filtre dots with water to see the end result of our coffee filtre dots.  We all started with a mark and it was interesting to see where it took the picture.  Everyone has the ability to be creative and it’s important to sign your work.

A class picture of us all with out dots!

The final display of our “The Dot” wall.  Grades 1, 2, and 3 artistic dots and it looks fantastic!!!  Thanks everyone for participating!

After big recess, we have a few minutes quiet time. It settles our bodies and gets us ready for the afternoon.

I was on outside duty and was able to get a few outdoor pictures.
So, as you can see we had a very busy first full week!  I have to say kindergarten is a lot of fun!

September 6 & 7 Getting into Routines!, and Pete the Cat!

First day pictures were taken.  A fine looking group!

After reading Pete the Cat - I Love MY White Shoes there was a note at the end of the book.  It had a clue of where we might find Pete.  We followed the clues, which led us on a tour of the school and in the end.  Pete thought our class was the best and we went back to discover Pete was not there but he left a container of Pete the cat cookies.  The class really enjoyed the treat.

Ms. McCarthy’s class came up to visit and see our class and then we went to see her class.
We also took first day pictures and another fine looking group!

We started out learning with Pete the Cat.  I will be using this theme in my class for a few weeks. This is worked on in the morning.

Routine is important and each day we do work jobs so we got right to work this week the work jobs were playdough wonderful for developing fine motor muscle control, stringing beads, pattern blocks and magnetics.

We worked on letter recognition by marching around the mat with the letters on it when the music stopped tell the letter you are standing on.  It was fine to get help from your friends or me.

In the afternoon Ms. McCarthy’s class joins us and it was learning centre time. The children choose which centre they would like to join, there are only so many children permitted to go to each centre.  We do a couple of rotations.  I try to give the children  45 - 60 minutes of learning centre time each day.  Here are a few pictures of the children enjoying the water table, building with the blocks, Lego, and dramatic play.

At the end of each day I ask the students to tell me something they enjoyed about their day.  There was a variety of answers from snack, outside in the playground and learning centre time.
We ended up our time with a class picture when I have both classes together.
