January 20 - 24

The children created their own scrapbook page!

Our literacy snowman outgrew our space !  It is wonderful to see the interest and support for our literacy project!

Cheryl Turner, Literacy Coach has captured the children's attention as she reads a story!  The children throughly enjoyed having Mrs. Turner in they were so excited to learn more about bookmaking, you will see their books at next parent teacher interviews.

Build your snowman ... first lay the snowman's body on the floor, roll a dice to see which part you add.  Record on your own snowman the parts you add!

Step one of building our ice snowmen.  Remove the balloons.  This was more difficult than it looked. There was lots of cooperation going on!

We used some salt to fuse the two ice balls together and they added felt for the features and yarn for a scarf!

Our finished snowmen!

I like to ............... outside on a snowy day!

Using mini marshmallows and spaghetti sticks we created some awesome creations!

Our Kaboom can of sight words - draw a stick out of the can if you know the sight word put it back in with the sight word sticking out of the can!

Happy Birthday Jaiden!

Working on our illustrations and words for  a page in our new class book "The Hat"!

Will the objects sink or float?   Predict and then put the item in the water.  Record what actually happened!

Mitten measurement.... how many cubes long is my mitten?  Find something longer, shorter and record. Draw your mitten and the add your favorite color of a mitten!

How many words are in a sentence?  Using the tiles to be sure each word is counted just once!

Some quiet time literacy activities!  The children enjoy looking and reading books at this time.

Working on creating our own paper plate Hedgehog!

The children were each given 3 or 4 letters and  asked to work together to put the letters in alphabetical order.

This week's science experiment.  KA and KB are enjoying the experiments.  If you have a simple science experiment that you would like to send in that would be great!

Jan 2 -10 The Mitten

Some  before Christmas activities!

We are each making a page for our class book of The Mitten!

Using playdough rolls balls for the mittens also try to write words.

How many of each different item will fit into my mitten.  Fill your mitten, count the number of items and record.

Working on our own mitten and characters for the story The Mitten,  Then we reach into our mitten take our a character and record which character came out of the mitten.

The girls worked on this structure over of period of a few days.  Great work girls!

Working on a daily 5!

Our Family Literacy Day Frosty is beginning to take shape.  Thank you for sending in snowballs each day!

Displays in the hallway for The Mitten!

Roll and graph the characters in the mitten and spell the characters using letter tiles.  Lots of cooperation and literacy skills being developed while having fun!

Our science experiment ... the question - Is a Mitten warm? Ask your child to explain the experiment.  Our star of the week got to help out by placing her hand in my mitten with a thermometer we checked the temperature before Zoey's hand went into the mitten and then timed it for 2 minutes and checked the temperature again!
