April 23 - 27 ~~~ Finishing up our Dinosaur Theme

The children created their own dinosaurs.
They were given a half of a paper plate,
white construction paper for the legs, neck,
and tail, there was an assortment of
materials available for the children to
use freely. They glued their dinosaurs
onto black construction paper.  I love
the uniqueness of each dinosaur!

Our second dinosaur floor puzzle!

Roll and record.  Which dinosaur would
race to the finish line first.  Use a
number line to self correct when forming
the numbers.  I overheard a couple of
children saying my Compsognathus
raced to the top.

Making a volcano erupt… was the all time
favorite work job this week. The expressions
on the children’s faces were priceless! I had
both classes all day Thursday and Friday.
Emily was absent so Cohen took her place
with Seth at this work job!

This work job was clipboard cruising at a
whole new different level. The word MEATEATER
was on the recording sheet.  First find a word
that begin with M, then E, etc.  The dictionary,
books, and word wall were all used to find words.

I set up work jobs for Mrs. McCarthy’s
class on Friday.  They consisted of a
dinosaur floor puzzle, the computers,
the writing table and the volcano work job!
The children did a wonderful job!

We also made dinosaur fossils!  Max from
grade nine was my assistant.  Thanks, Max!
The fossils need to harden and then we
will paint them up next week!

Learning centre time pictures!

My class loves to read!  Here they
are buddy reading with a friend!
It makes my day when they ask
can we read!!!

To ensure that everyone got to help
with the volcano.  Mrs.Arsenault
graciously let me borrow her big volcano
and each child had a turn adding some
baking soda or vinegar.  It was spectacular!!!

When Grayson grows up he is
going to be a Veterinarian!

Here is Max, he is leading the class
in a game of guess that sentence!
The children take turns guessing a letter
and try to figure out the sentence before
Max draws a complete umbrella.  Each time
an incorrect letter is guessed a part of
the picture is drawn.

Dinosaurs and Earth Day!

Happy 6th birthday to Morgan!

This work job consisted of 10 dinosaur prints
with pictures of them around the room.
The children went clipboard clipping and
tried to sound out the words. Many
children were able to put beginning and
ending sounds and quite a few added
the vowels in the centre.

This work job was a dinosaur board game.
You went around the board and if you
landed on a space with a dinosaur egg.
You put an egg on your card.  You tried
to fill your card with 4 dinosaur eggs first.

Measuring dinosaur bones,using links, cars,
Lego and blocks.  When you are finished
get a number line to check that your
numbers are made correctly.
Finally, decorate your dinosaur bones.

We celebrated Earth Day early.  I read
a couple of books, did a couple short
you tubes on Reduce,Reuse, Recycle.
Created our own earth day people and
when KB joined us we had a discussion on
how we could help protect the earth and wrote
an earth day promise.

This work job was one of my
floor dinosaur puzzles.

When Morgan grows up
he is going to drive a bulldozer.

We used the chromebooks with our book buddies.

Each Friday the students read
their guided reader to the class.
A friend holds the microphone
for the reader.

Spring is in the Air!!!  We made
some colorful spring birds to put
on the tree in the hallway.

Some dinosaur activities from this week!

Learning centre time.  It is interesting
to see who plays with who and what
they choose for learning centre time.
We usually have  two rotations each day!

Magnetics, Capacity, Sink and Float, and Part,Part Whole

As a sign of respect for the
Humboldt Broncos we are
wearing jerseys or green tops.

Part part whole, shake and drop
the two sided chips, count to see
how many of each color.  Show
different ways to represent 10.

Sink and float. Drop the items in the water.
Check to see if it will sink or float.
Record your findings.

Capacity - using the small blue cup
fill it to the top and pour it into the
different containers.  Record how many
cups it takes to fill each container.
Which one held more, less, did any hold the same?

Magnetic s - test each item to see
which ones attract and which items detract.
Record your findings.

As fishing season is opening on Sunday.
We went fishing in our class.  Each fish
had a sight word one it.  After you
caught a fish and told what the word
was on the fish you got your own fish to
decorate, cut out to take home. We
watched a documentary on trout fishing
on PEI to see what trout fish looked like,
the children did a great job of making
the trout look realistic.

It was time to do a Spring Mural.
We are getting right into the paint
to make our Kindergarden of flowers!!!

Griffin wrote our morning message.

We were doing some experimenting
on heavy and light.  Each child was
asked to bring over to small items.
We then predicted which one would
weigh more before placing the items
on the scale.

Emma wrote the morning message.

Holden was being the teacher as part
of his Star of the Week.  He chose
the game Doggie, Doggie, Where’s your Bone?

When Holden grows up he is going
to be a bus driver!

Seth, Chandler and Holden enjoying
the block centre.

Maddy, Grace and Cohen are busy
at the writing centre.

Emma and Maddy are
concentrating with the bunny game.

Grayson and Caleb are busy
creating at the Marbleworks!

Harper, Clairabella, Bransen, and Griffin
are busy at the writing table. They are
making snowflakes and kites!

Kaden, Morgan, Cohen and Nevaeh
are busy creating with the Lego!
They worked really hard on this creation
and asked to keep it up so I found a large
piece of cardboard and we slid it on and
put it in the back room for safe keeping.
The bird’s eye view really shows their hard work.

Jayda is sharing her diary with Emily.

When Chandler grows up
he wants to be a Police Officer.
