Pete the Cat ~~~ Finishing up ... Week # 3

It’s beginning to look like Fall!

Our Rocking Shoe
 and Big Grovey Button!

Creating our Pete the Cat!

Our Hallway display of Pete the Cat!

Button sorting work job ..
the children discovered
they could sort the buttons
 by color, size, shape and
by the number of holes in
 the buttons.

Poor Pete the cat needs
 to find his matching shoe.
Cut out the small sheet of
shoes and glue next to the
matching shoe.

Concept of spoken word.
Take turns reading the
sentence. Try to touch
 each word as you read.

Our first attempt at clipboard
 cruising.  Lots of assistance
with this work job. We started
off with 4 words.

The children are enjoying Gym!

More work on patterns!

I made some new playdough.
 By the number of children
 around the table this rainy
indoor recess it was a hit!

Mark Enman, is our Literacy Coach.
He was in to read a story and will
be working with us some this week.

McKinley was so excited with
 her sticker picture. She did
a great job of showing and
telling about her picture.
McKinley made it at home
 and added Pete the Cat!

We were using the whiteboards.
Deandra drew a picture of her and me.

Some learning centre pictures!!!

Pete the Cat ~~~ Week #2

Pete the cat has numbers on him.
Attach the correct number of
buttons on Pete’s shirt.

Use the letter tiles and place
the letters on the Pete the cat words.

Each student has a t-shirt sheet.
There is a container of buttons.
Roll the dice and add that number
of buttons to your t-shirt.  See
who has the most buttons on their
t-shirt when all the buttons are gone.

Pete the cat board game.
Roll the dice move that
number of spaces.

We voted on our favorite
 Pete the Cat story.
Pete the Cat- The Wheels
on the Bus was the favorite this year!

This was Stefen’s morning
job this week.  He was our
 greeter.  McKinley decided
she would like a high five.

Last week we created our
 Rocking School Shoe.
This week we are creating
 our Big Groovy Button!

I introduced the whiteboards.
 First we do some letter
 formation and than the
children had a few minutes
to draw anything they wished.

My interactive Pete the Cat
 and his groovy buttons.
 Each student had a turn
 to change the number
and add the buttons.

Pete the Cat
Concentration Card Game…
turn over two cards if they
are the same have another turn.

Our Terry Fox Walk…
we walked inside the
soccer field and after
 the children had some
 time in the playground
 with the students in KB.

September 4 - 13 ~~~ Routines and Week # 1 of Pete the Cat

Look who’s Popping into Kindergarten!

First day of kindergarten pictures!

Creating our Pete the cat headbands.

Pete left us a clue to follow in his book
“ I Love My White Shoes”, we followed
the cues for a tour of the school and
ended up back in our class for a
tasty Pete the Cat cookie!

Getting right into a routine.
Stringing beads - great
 for fine motor.

Magnetic fun!

Pattern blocks!

Playdough!

Working with puzzles.

Our first attempt at turn
and talk. One person talks
 while the other person listens
 and then switch.

We ended the day with a
freeze dance. Lots of great moves!

Learning centre time
choice board. Each day
 different children
Choose first. I try to do
 two rotations daily in
 the afternoon.

Our first art activity.  Cut out,
 decorate a  rockin’ shoe any
color you wish and then we
 added a few sparkles.

Our Wall of Art!

I use handwriting without
 tears as we begin letter
Formation and sounds.
Here are the steps for letter S and A.

Each day we complete work
jobs. Each student does one
 job per day by Thursday
everyone has had a turn at each work job.
This work job was a Pete the Cat Puzzle.

Roll the dice.  Whatever
 number you roll is the
 number your color.

Turn over a card, name
the letter if you don’t know it
 ask a friend. Sometimes it
says sing a song. Move your
game piece up a block.
 Race to the top.

Color Pete the Cat
by color code.

Oh dear… I accidentally spilled
a large container of cube blocks.
I asked the children to sort the
blocks into colors.  Well done!

We worked on AB patterns.
We only had two boys present
so this is as far as our girl boy
 pattern could extend.

Some learning centre pictures.
 The children are learning to
choose a centre and stay there
until it is time to rotate. Lots
of social skills occurring -
turn taking, asking nicely,
 sharing, inside voices,
cleaning up, helping each
other, manners and so much more!!!
