April 7 - 10 The Little Red Hen

Gemma MacLean was our Star of the Week!  Congratulations Gemma!

Weighing objects using the scales... which object was heavier?  Record your answer.

The Little Red Hen .... which characters were in the story?  Which characters were not in the story?

Working on creating our own Little Red Hen!

Our finished Little Red Hens, each one is unique!  I believe art is the favorite work job!

Creating a page in our own classroom book.  I am helpful when I ...

The children working together cooperatively between activities.

Our Little Red Handprint Hens.  The children did an awesome job of adding extra detail!

I Know My .... we are working on full names. birthdays, address both civic address and community and telephone numbers.  When your child knows all the information a sticker is placed by their name.

In keeping with the story we made bread just like the Little Red Hen.  It was called Bread in a Bag.  Here the children are measuring the ingredients, after the bag was sealed we passed it around and the children squeezed and squished the bag to mix the ingredients.  Then I kneaded the dough and placed it in the pans to rise.  Mr. Acorn turned on the oven and after little recess and when the children were at music the bread cooked!

The bread before and after it was cooked

Everyone had a slice of the bread.  All children enjoyed the the bread.  It was a team effort of everyone working together.  The comments from the children included:  Mmmmmmmm,  can you teach us in grade one so we can bake bread again.  No every time we go to another grade can you come too.  We could make bread every year!  We put the other loaf in the staffroom for the teachers and there was not a crumb remaining.

I read the story of Bibi and the Bull.  I asked each child to draw something about the story.  Bibi went to her Grandfathers farm and he took her around and pointed out some of the dangerous things on his farm.  I love your illustrations.   You are now adding many more quality details!

We compared four Little Red Hen stories and found that each had some of the same characters and that the Little Red Hen was the main character in each of the stories.

Here are some props for the children to act our the story.  The story sack will be sent home to each house for you to enjoy for a night!

March 26 - 27

Liam turned 6!  Happy Birthday Liam!

We were working on Measurement... the children each made a paper snake and  then were asked to find something in the classroom the same length as their snake,  they found a friend with a longer snake and a friend with a shorter snake.  Lots of fun and learning together!

This little bunny will be hidden in the classroom every day until Easter.  The children search to find him.  Lots of mapping directions are given for hints!

Working on sorting and counting.  Each child is given a baggie of items.  They count each type of item, record the the number by the picture.

More counting.  Choose a monster number card and a pipe cleaner.  Add that amount of beads on the pipe cleaner.  Before choosing another card have your worked checked.

More counting with monsters.  Choose a card and count that number of eyes to put on the monster.  You also print the number on the monster.  Have your work checked before erasing and working on another number.

Read It, Build It, and Print It!  Using our fish sight words.  Before erasing show your work!

Some learning centre fun.  I brought out my train track.  There is no right way to put it together.  Lots of cooperation and planning together with this new learning centre activity.  The writing table is always a hit along with the computers and dramatic play!
