Blog April 18 - 22

Little Red Hen playdough mats.  Add grains of wheat to the wheat stalks.  Make some loaves of bread.  Make some words with the playdough.

Which characters were in the Little Red Hen story.  Put the story in sequence.

Creating your own little red hen using your hand as the body!

Our finished Little Red Hen Art!

Sequence the story.  Plant the wheat, water the wheat, cut the wheat, get the wheat made into flour, and finally bake the bread.

Making our own homemade bread.  Each child added an ingredient into the bag or bowl for our bread.  The yeast bag was passed around for the children to squish mixing all the ingredients well.  The other ingredients were measured in a bowl and then added to the bag which was passed around again.  The last part was kneading and shaping the bread into loaves by Mrs. Dumville.  We made a loaf for our class and a loaf for the teachers.

The warm bread was cut into slices by Mrs. Dumville with her electric knife.

We had butter and jam for the bread. Not a bite was left!

The little red hen rhyming poem.  We did some retelling of the story.

Miscouche staff and students are excited for all the educational benefits the newly installed Wifi and Chromebooks have brought into the school.  Teachers were given laptops which will allow them better access to the tools they need to work at home and school.  In addition, all the educational tools our new Chromebooks have given our students and teachers is a welcome addition to the learning atmosphere.  Students using their google drives make it easier to access their work from any type of computer at home and at school as long as they have internet access and google drive downloaded.  Each child has their own login and password.  I will send them home as you can login at home as well.  The students also have e-mail accounts which we will not be using in kindergarten.  The technician support man Eric, Ms. B., and I assisted the children to get logged in and added Starfall.com to their favorites. The children are relying on their fine motor control skills with the touch pad.

I asked the children to show me a thumbs up if they liked the new chrome books!  I guess by the response they did.  I will try to sign them out once each week.

Each day we have 5 minutes of quiet time after big recess.  The children are to look or read books very quietly.  It calms their bodies and get them ready for the remainder of the afternoon.

Ms. Gard our Literacy coach was in to work on Writer’s Workshop with the children.  She read the book Roller Coaster and talked about a small moment of time in your day.  The children were asked to write about one small moment that happed at one time.  We had made writer’s workshop headbands and the children got right to work the stories were awesome!

Some learning centre activities.  The train track has been a very popular centre this year.  The children can put it together many different ways.

Henry and Brooklynn chose the sandbox at learning centre time.  They discovered they could draw in the sand and asked if I could take a picture for the blog

Our Earth Day Mascot craft.  The children had t use their fine motor skills to complete this activity!   We looked and talked about the class globe before getting started.

Our finished Earth Day Art!

We ended the week for going out to the playground and picking up any trash that was on the ground.  Our playground is clean!!!!

Blog Notes April for week of April 11 – 14

Lacing cards try to weave the lace beginning at A and finishing at Z.  This fine motor activity was challenging for the students.

ABC Caterpillar put the pictures in alphabetical order.  This was a self correcting activity as the numbers were on the back of the pictures.  We have been learning about alphabetical order and on some days when we are leaving the classroom I will request that the children line up in alphabetical order.

Flowers without petals. The center of the flower had a number on it. Using paint and your finger put the number of petals on the flower.

As trout season begins April 15 for this work job the children fished a fish which had dots on it.  They counted the dots and then recorded that number on a fish on their own fish bowl recording sheet.

Some very creative Lego creations!

Some learning centre time activities.

Storm pictures for Tuesday.  We looked at the team roster and everyone decided on which team player they would like to cheer and draw a picture of to bring to the game.  The Storm players really liked the pictures!!!

More Storm pictures!!!

Some learning centre time pictures!

Jasper discovered that if he connected all the Lego chains together he could make a neck chain!

The Gruffalo … what we thought he may look like and what he really looked like.

Guided Writing using the Gruffalo….  We are working a leaving a space between each words as the children write.  Please remind your children to do this at home when they are writing as well.

Our very own Gruffalo Art.  Each Gruffalo has their own unique personality!

Gruffalo Movie Ticket.  We played a game where the tickets were in an envelope and the envelope was wrapped with different colors of paper.  We turned on some music and the children started to pass around the wrapped gift.  When the music stopped whoever was holding the gift unwrapped one color of paper.  We continued until it was just the envelope and there inside was a ticket for everyone to go to the movies and have free popcorn.  Of course we had to make our classroom look like the movie theatre.  So we rolled up the carpet and found as many comfy chairs as we could.  It was a great way to finish up our week of The Gruffalo!
