February 21 - 24 ~~~~~ Finishing up our Valentine Workjobs and talking about our 100 Days of School

Dakota Brewer was our Star of the Week last week.  Congratulations Dakota!

Izabella Gallant is our Star of the Week this week!  Congratulations Izabella!
Color the word love by code.

Lots of children remembered to wear pink for anti-bullying. Thank you to Alex for taking the picture.

We joined grade one for a couple of stories about bullying.  Howard G. Wigglebottom is a favorite!

Mrs. Dickieson was back to introduce our second reading power.  It is the Re-read Power.  She taught us a song to the tune of Spiderman to help remember this power.

Dakota is our Star of the Week so he is chosen to show the power to put on our super reader chart.

Count how many of each object and record.  When finished recording the number of items you color.

Some learning centre fun!

Roll and graph, which heart will race to the top?

Finish the pattern and then color the picture.

Some outside pictures!

February 15 ~~~~ Celebrating Valentine's Day

Upon arrival the children went right to work on their Valentine Headbands and making a flag for National Flag Day.

Passing out their Valentines was a very important part of the day.

I found a pair of red heart shaped sunglasses so we all had a turn to model them. Lots of giggles!

We pushed all the tables together and had a Valentine Party snack.  Thank you to Patrick, Benjamin, Izabella, and Brooklynn for bringing in the treats!

Another very important part of our day was actually opening up our valentines.  Great excitement!

I thought the children may enjoy a little piece of playdough, the recipe and a heart playdough cutter.  Happy Valentine’s Day!

We got to make our boxes of love for you.  Here are your children filling up their box with love.  Enjoy!

January 30 - February 9 ~~~~~~ Finishing up The Mitten, The Hat, Groundhog Day and some Valentine Day Activities

Carleigh Profitt was our Star of the Week last week! Congratulations Carleigh!

Our “Star with a Heart” projects are all in except for two.  Each heart is unique and lovely!

Kaitlynn Powers turned 6 years old. Happy Birthday Kaitlynn!
Decorate the mittens with the playdough.  Spell the story characters as well.

Using the letter tiles to spell some words from the Jan Brett stories. The Mitten and The Hat

Help Nikki get to his mitten.  Then roll to see which character will race to the finish!

Creating our own The Mitten story. Decorate, cut  it out and  lace your mitten. Then color and cut out the characters to go in the mitten.

Draw a line to the shadow of each animal.

Making our own Groundhog and tunnel.  Sing the song and pop up the groundhog.  If he/she sees his/her shadow down he’ll go!
We invited grade 1,2,and 3 to predict if the groundhog will see his shadow

See how many cars, shells,Lego, cubes and blocks will fit into your mitten.

The Mitten - Draw what happened in the beginning of the story, the middle and the end.  Then draw your favorite part of the story.

Guided Writing first you draw a picture of an animal wearing an item of clothing.  Then Mrs. Dumville will assist you to write the sounds you hear, leaving spaces  and making sure you have a punctuation at the end.  Our writing is displayed in the hallway.

Lesley Dickieson - K-6 Language Arts/Social Studies and Innovation Leader was into the classroom to work with us on co-constructing some criteria for guided reading. Our provincial goal for k-3 focuses on reading. So we enlisted the students to help us learn about super heros.  First they identified a few super heros. And what they had for super powers and if they had a problem what did they do.  So our class chart is started and we will continue to add powers that the children have and use during reading.  The first power that they as Super Readers use is  Pointer Power!!! Here we have Carleigh (our star of the week) with her cape on demonstrating her pointer power!

The students decorated our class for Valentine’s Day!

We used white, pink, or a red envelope to make some beautiful valentine card mailboxes!  The students really enjoyed the freedom of decorating the envelopes any way they wished.  I provided stickers and they could also use colored, pencils, crayons or markers if they wished.  They decided that the stickers were all they wanted.
Alex worked really hard while building this magnificent block building!  Great building Alex!

Our finished Valentine Card mailboxes!

Heading to the buses after working here at school all day!  We are all dressed toasty warm!
