showed the children how
to do a teamwork cheer!

Wearing orange for
Reconciliation Day…
Every child Matters!!!

We have been spending time
on noticing print. To create
letters some are made by only
using lines, some use lines
and curves and some are made
up of curves. We took the initial
letter of everyone's name and
worked together to decide which
group each child fitted in.
Lines and curves had the largest group.

Some learning centre pictures!

We ended the week with
the song Rig A Jig Jig.
Using rhymes in the song.
When I walking down the street,
down the street, down the street.
I happened to see a duck driving
a truck. Aho Aho Aho!
Oh Rig a Jig Jig and away we go,

September 17 - 21 ~~~ The Kissing Hand week # 2

This work job involved reading sentences
from The Kissing hand.  The children
took turns pointing to each word and
reading the sentence.

Measuring the raccoon tails,
using cubes, tiles and little people.

Roll the dice, color the heart
that has the same number as the dice.

Cut and paste. There are numbers 1-5.
Cut out the chesters and glue the
correct amount next to each number.

Zero the Hero visits our class
each time there is a 0 on the calendar.
He brings a couple of songs,
the book Zero the Hero and
some zero shaped candy.
A fun way to learn about zero!

Sorting … as a group we sorted
some blocks on the mat.  Then,
we discussed how we can sort
many different ways, color, size,
shape, number of button holes, etc.
Then each child was given a handful
of buttons to sort and described the
sorting rule.

Show and Tell is a great way
to introduce asking questions.
Jaxon, did a great job of
answering the questions
about his show and tell.

I also use the students for
patterns and sorting.  Here we
have an AB pattern or boy girl boy girl.

Sasha celebrated her 5th birthday!
Happy birthday Sasha!

We wrapped up our Kissing Hand
Theme with kissing hand cookies.
The children were very generous
with their compliments! :)

I introduced the children to their portfolios.
They will be  deciding what pieces of work
they want to keep.  This theme I asked
them to put one piece of their work in
their portfolio.  Blaiz is deciding what
piece of work he wants to keep.

Some learning centre pictures.

September 10 - 14 ~ Week #1 - The Kissing Hand

We sure are going to have
a ball learning in kindergarten!

All blog forms have been returned.
So no more faces need to be blanked out.
Here are the first day pictures of
the children I had to blank out last week!

Look at the number on the Chester.
Place that amount of heart erasers
on the sheet.

Sentence strips all about Chester.
Place a picture card on the strip.
I help read the sentence.
Does the picture match the sentence?

Alphabet Board Game… one player turns
over a letter and each player finds that
letter on their playing card.
Cover it with a little Chester!

Number Board Game… roll the dice.
Move your marker that many spaces.
Pass the dice to the next player.

We were practicing forming the letters
Ss and Aa. After the children drew
pictures of themselves and tried to
print their name on the whiteboard.

The learning centre choice board.
Each day a different color chooses first.
The children can see how many children
may go to each centre.  If it is full
choose another centre.

Some learning centre fun!
I love seeing the children
engaged and having fun with
their classmates!

International Dot Day class photo.
The children looked awesome.
It was also crazy hair/hat day!

Everyone can be creative.
Here the children are making dots,
using markers on coffee filters.
Then they spray it with water,
see how the dots run together
creating a beautiful piece of Art.

The finished hallway display…
I think it looks great!

Not only fun but here are a couple
of learning outcomes that we
were meeting with The Dot!

September 6 & 7 ~~~ Getting into Routines

First day pictures were taken.  A fine looking group!

After reading The Kissing Hand - we made Chester the Racoon headbands.
There was a note at the end of the book.  It had a clue of where
we might find Chester. We followed the clues, which led us on a tour
of the school and in the end.  Chester thought our class was the best and
we went back to discover Chester was not there but he left some
chocolate kisses for everyone.  The class really enjoyed the treat.

Routine is important and each day
we do work jobs so we got right to
work this week the work jobs were:
playdough wonderful for developing fine
motor muscle control, stringing beads, pattern
 blocks and magnetics.

We worked on letter recognition by marching around
the mat with the letters on it when the music stopped
tell the letter you are standing on.  It was fine to get
help from your friends or me.

In the afternoon it is learning centre time.
The children choose which centre they would like to join,
there are only so many children permitted to go to each centre.
We do a couple of rotations. I try to give the children
45 - 60 minutes of learning centre time each day.
Here are a few pictures of the children enjoying learning centre time.
