September 24 - 28

This week we had lots of fun learning in the classroom. Zero the Hero arrived with a book to be read, a song, a poem and a surprise treat of fruit flavored life savers in the shape of zeros.
We read the book it was all about how Zero wanted to be included and we discovered the he was very important as he was needed when we count by 10's. We cannot wait until Zero the Hero comes back again on October 10th? Will he bring another surprise?

  • The whiteboard was used every day. We use whiteboard crayons and discovered that if we use a wet cloth the board is erased quite easily. The whiteboard has just enough room for two to work together. Fine motor, creativity and cooperation all in one fun activity!
  • When we left the class and came back after music there were bears and patterns blocks all over the mat. Mrs. Dumville asked if the children could find ways to sort the items. The children sorted by color, size, all of one item, and one person sorted by color and expanded her sorting to include an AB pattern. The children were asked to tell the other children about their sorting rule. It in the end it was discovered that Mrs. Dumville was the mystery mess maker.
  • Lego is chosen every day by the students at learning centre time. The creations are fantastic. Fine motor muscles are hard at work!
  • The computers are turned on for learning centre time. The children are learning how to login in, open and close a program and use the mouse which are all technology outcomes. The program that we are using mostly is called Polygone.
  • Blocks is also another popular learning centre. The students are building some wonderful structures. The skills being developed include: eye-hand coordination, one-to-one correspondence, creativity and cooperation.
  • Apple Art - the students each painted a paper bag art apple. The apples are hanging on our class clothesline. The children decided that we should have three colors available for the apples, red, yellow and green. We will use the apples for counting and sorting next week.
  • Two students chose books at learning centre time. They look quite comfy enjoying their books. Literacy is an important component of the kindergarten day!

September 19 - 23

Picture day is coming soon!

I liked the pig best in Mrs. Wishy Washy!

What fun investigating the sunflowers. There was so many seeds!

The class decided what promises our circle of respect should include. The class also decided what should happen if someone broke a promise. Each student signed their promise of respect. Our circle is hanging in the classroom.

Look who is in Kindergarten A and B. Can you see someone who looks like me?

Drawing in journals is part of our daily routine.

Creativity . . . Our very own showcase!

We have been learning all about AB patterns. The pattern frames look great!

Learning in Action!

The children are busy at work. The outcomes that they are working on include:

  1. Blocks are great for demonstrating that cooperation is an important part of being a member of a group. Great teamwork boys!
  2. Playdough for building small muscles - Physical Development 1.2 and expressing ideas and feelings creatively through artistic expression ( Creative Development 1.2)
  3. Painting is also good for developing small muscle control and creative development.
  4. Dramatic play the ladies are developing their conversation skills, self help skills and cooperating and developing friendship!
  5. Sorting buttons that all the same color, size , shape, or by the number of button holes is the beginning of geometry.
  6. Pattern blocks are helpful when learning about repeating patterns!
  7. Playing with the dolls... this young lady is giving the babies very gentle care.
  8. Creativity ... now what else should I add to my picture? Does it look like me?
  9. Mask's are great for expressing ideas and feelings through play.
