October 15 - 18 Finishing up Apples

First stop at Kool Breeze
was to enjoy a tasty cone of ice cream!

Lots of gross motor fun
as the children explored all
the displays at Kool Breeze.

Lunch at Kool Breeze and then
off to Arlington Orchard for some
more exercise on the play equipment!

A wonderful looking bunch
of apples from KA!

Some more photos from Arlington
Orchards.  It was definitely a beautiful day!

Our class apple charts!

Before we baked our Apple Crisp.
The ingredients were on the writing table.
I asked the children what they thought
we might need to bake our own apple crisp.
Here is what they came up with for a recipe.
Then we added the steps we followed.

Peeling and cutting up our own apple.
Each child created their own.
We had put all the ingredients for
the crisp part in a large zip lock bag.
Passed it around to get well mixed.
I placed it in a bowl with a spoon and
when the children were finished peeling,
cutting up their apple and placing it in
their own pie tin they added a big
spoonful of crisp and it was ready
for the oven.

Now the fun part!  It is cooked
and still warm. Whipped cream
was available and most wanted
some on the top of their apple crisp.
Finally when we were finished eating.
I asked for a thumbs up it they
enjoyed their apple crisp.  Lots of
thumbs up and I heard words like
it was amazing, fabulous, good and
delicious!  The amount of learning that
occurs with one little baking activity.
For example: health ( wash hands before baking,
fine motor- peeling and cutting, cooperation,
teamwork cleaning up the tables, using our 5 senses,
literacy creating the recipe, along with
community connections and lots of
physical- gross and fine motor.

Rhyming place the three pictures
on the apple pie that rhymes with
the picture on the pie and then
trace the lines to the apple trees.

More rhyming and saying the letters you recognize.

Numbers- place a number on the
leaf of the apple and place that
number of worms on the apple and
then work on the rhyming match game.

Extend the apple pattern and
then look at the ten frames,
count the apples in the ten frame
find the number, number of seeds
and tally marks that go with each apple.

It was a really cold day.
Quite a few children did
not have mittens.  Special thanks
to our friend Susan who
donated mittens to our class.

The children are outside nearly
every day.  It is time to be
wearing hats, mittens, boots
and splash pants.  Many of the
children have been coming in
saying they are cold.

Coats…. Please notice if your child is able
to independently zipper their coat. If
your child is experiencing
difficulty please practice at home.
Thank you!

We watched the Ants of Marching One by One.
Decided to have a little fun with it and numbers.
There was not enough room to go side by side to
have everyone march together so we did it like a
train.  Lots of giggles numbers and singing!

Some learning centre pictures.
I introduced the water table and sandbox.
