April 3- 6 ~~~~ Our First Week of Our Easter Theme

Brooklynn Doucette was our Star of the Week!  Congratulations Brooklynn!

We have been discussing families.  They come in all different sizes and are made up of different people. The children identified and described who belongs in their families and earlier we had discussed family traditions when you sent in your family tradition posters.  This is part of our Family Social Studies Curriculum.
2.1 identify and describe their family and 2.2 recognize that families have varied traditions, rituals and celebrations.

Count the eggs in the bag. Record the number and decorate the eggs.

Count how many of each egg pattern you find. Record the number and decorate the eggs.

Connect the letters to create an Easter picture.  Color your picture.

Color the Easter egg by code.

Storm Basketball players were here on Wednesday.  We made some posters to cheer on the team.  Michael Cameron’s name was drawn to play against the Storm team.  He was very excited he said  “I have some good moves”.

Mrs. Dickieson was back and we had lots of fun learning about partner reading, and discussing “wow” pages in books.

The children were given sticky notes and each read a book to a partner and put some stickers in the pages they identified as “wow” pages

Mrs. Dickeson also brought a letter addressed to me.  It was from Reader Man. We had sent him thank you notes for all the materials he sent with Mrs. Dickieson to make our Pointer power pointers.

Inside the letter were thank you notes to all the students for using their reading powers.  Here is Nevaeh K. with her thank you note!

Some learning centre activities.  I took a bird’s eye view of the the structure Patrick had build using the small blocks.

Michael worked really hard building with the blocks.

March 27 - 31 ~~~~~ The Gruffalo

Cassie MacDonald was our Star of the Week! Congratulations Cassie!

Working together to make the underworld puzzle.  Great Teamwork!

I had a Gruffalo board game and each child had an opportunity to play the game with me and a few friends! Lots of fun and laughs.

The Gruffalo … what the students thought he might look like and what his character really looks like in the story.

Our Gruffalo chart poem.  Ask your child to sing The Gruffalo song.

This week each workjob had two parts. For this one first you used playdough and the Gruffalo playdough mats and then you used the pictures to sequence the story.

Label the Gruffalo and then use the lacing wheels.

Print some Gruffalo words and then you complete a small Gruffalo puzzle.

Use the letter tiles to spell some Gruffalo related words and then you play a Gruffalo board game.

Using our whiteboards to practice forming letters and numbers.  Notice if your child is making the numbers and letters correctly.

Some learning centre fun!

Kaitlynn is enjoying listening to a story at the listening centre.

Mrs. Dickieson was back and she is modeling partner reading with Cassie.  Then all the students had a turn to partner read with a friend.

We had lots of fun acting out the Gruffalo story.  The children did a wonderful job of using different voices as they acted out the story.

Creating our own Gruffalo Art!  Each child was given the materials and each Gruffalo certainly has it’s own character.  The sizes the children cut to make the facial details is interesting.

The finished Gruffalo Art!

We ended the week by changing our classroom into a Theatre.  I rolled up the mat and moved it out of the way.  The children got in line to stamp their admission ticket and pick up a cup of corn twists at the concession stand.  They brought their chairs over and lined them up to watch The Gruffalo.  It was a nice way to end our week of The Gruffalo.

March 13 - 17 ~~~~~ It was all about St. Patrick's Day and our Spring Fling

Isabella Gallant was our last “Star of the Week” congratulations Isabella!

The children did some St. Patrick’s Day decorating!

Our Art Wall Leprechaun’s!

Lenny the Leprechaun was hiding each day.  He was difficult to find this day as he was hiding in the Shamrock!

This work job was a concentration game.  Find two matching St. Patrick’s Day pictures.

Color, count and tally the St. Patrick’s Day items.

Lucky Charms count and tally.  The best part was eating the lucky charms when you finished.

St. Patrick’s Day pot of gold puzzle.  Color, cut apart and glue the puzzle pieces onto the right part of the pot!

Some pictures of our Spring Fling Talent Show! The children were quite excited to have the opportunity to strut their stuff!

Some gym activities on our mini winter carnival day!

Art in the Dark!!!  Special thank you to Ms. Johnston for organizing and leading this project.  Special thank you to all the helpers as well.  The students enjoyed the painting and their pictures turned out really well!

Our fundraiser Pie The Teacher …. Brooklynn’s name was drawn and I believe she really enjoyed getting to put a pie in my face!

We have been working on getting all the rocks in our bucket.  A rock was put in the bucket each time the class was complimented by an outside source on how well our class was doing something. Ex; walking quietly in the hallway, listening well for a library story, being attentive during a presentation.  We celebrated by making “Dirt and Worm” Sundaes!  The children really enjoyed the celebration treat!

We read a St. Patrick’s Day story and in the book was a note that we were to follow the clues to find Lenny’s Pot of Gold.  We did some mapping as we followed the clues.

Lenny’s pot had some pencils, lucky coins and a couple of lollipops for everyone.

Nevaeh is making her re-read pointer power stick.  She was absent the day Mrs. Dickieson was in and made them with the class.

Some outdoor recess pictures!
