February 20 - 24 Dinosaur Days Learning Activities!

Guided Writing - this week the children chose a dinosaur they would like
to draw and tell something about. The children are asked to do their
best work and add detail to their drawings. Ask them what it means to
add detail. Then I guide their writing. This is when we talk about leaving a finger
space between each word, only capital letters when needed and punctuation.
I also use the word editing when something needs to be changed.

Our paper mache dinosaur egg. Each day a different
group of children added a layer to the egg. We will crack
it open on March 2nd. I wonder what will be hidden inside the egg?

Dinosaur Dig - Dig the dinosaurs out of the sand.
Sort, count and record how many dinosaurs of each type.

Zoo, hat, pig, airplane or jet, sun, bug, top or spinning top.
Great work!

Find the ten hidden dinosaur tracks and sound out the picture
on each dinosaur. Some children printed the first sound, others had the first
and last sound and some were able to print the complete word.

Mrs. Champion borrowed this beautiful Flap Doodle Dinosaurs pop up book from Warren
and Mrs. DesRoche. The class really enjoyed this interactive book.

The dinosaur table is a popular choice at learning centre time.

Dinosaurs have taken over the block area. They are hidden
inside the big building with the sign on the top!

Each day I try to do a phonological awareness activity with the class.
We had so much fun with this one I thought I would share it.
Substitute different first sounds. Enjoy!

K wrote a letter to Mr. MacDonald. He
enjoys receiving his kindergarten mail!

W enjoyed writing a message for me during
learning centre time. Good Morning, Today is Friday! Nice work W!

Eating and socializing during snack time.
Great time for developing social skills.

We continue to explore 3-D objects.
Vocabulary includes: round, flat, point, corner, big,
small, sort, and sorting rule.

February 13-17

Mr. MacDonald read the book "Time to Sleep" and has engaged
the children to pretend they are sleeping after the story has been read.
We had sleeping kittens, bears, bunnies, mice and a wide assortment of
other animals. Lots of snoring sounds. We all enjoyed the story!

Danielle, our mystery reader has captured the attention
of the students. She read The Balloon Tree and
brought attention on how to use
voice and expression when you read.
Thanks, Danielle!

The whiteboard is also used nearly every day
at learning centre time. The children love to draw and
print. Nice work A!

Using words to describe shapes. Points, corners, flat, round,
long, short and smooth.
Then we sorted the shapes many different ways.

Thanks for the dance.

The dramatic play centre is well used.
Here we have a skeleton, a ghost, Buzz Lightyear and
a princess. Imagination at it's best!

Wonderful conversation regarding the castle
pirates.

We had lots of fun celebrating our 100th Day
in School. We had a wonderful selection of 100
items that the children brought into the class. Thank you!
We also really enjoyed making our headbands and using
ten frames to count out 100 tasty treats!

We enjoyed the balloon game it was hard to keep
the red balloon up in the air.
We also made Valentines for our book and
computer buddies.

Valentine's Day!
Lots of excitement and fun as we
Opened up our valentine's!

February 6-10th

The high display case has been removed and we now have
a tree to decorate. Here our tree has been decorated
with Valentine Art from Kindergarten A and B and
Grades 1 and 1-2.
Ask your child to tell you the story
of where the the tree came from.

I believe that almost every animal, car and block
have been used in this wonderful structure!

Each day different children get to choose their centre first at
learning centre time in the afternoon. Here both K and C
wanted to use the computer. I suggested they could both use
it if they took turns. Cooperation at it`s best!

This dragon picture was in the paper practice bin.
We had discussed Chinese New Year.
The children kept asking is there any more dragon pictures.

Mr. MacDonald has captured the children's attention as he
reads " Momma Zooms``. Momma is in a wheelchair and can
do lots of great things. We need to treat all people the same.

The paper practice high five has been very popular
with the students. In this container is an assortment of mazes,
cutting, and dot - to-dot.

C also chose a book to read.

Here C chose a book to read from the high five bins!
Great work at pointing to each word.

All student completed their own How To Make a Snowman
procedure book. Mrs. Dumville
guided their writing.

Mr. MacDougall, our mystery reader did a great job of engaging the
students as he read the book " The Show-and-Tell Lion.

Roll the dice and build the snowman.
Each number required the students to add a different part.
When the six was rolled they could add any part they wished.
Numbers, following directions, cooperation and turn taking!

The finished products!

The children working on their paper plate snowmen.
Cutting, gluing, imagination and fun!

The ice sculpture snowmen were a hit!
Two balloons with water were frozen for each child.
The with a little help, some coarse salt, felt and yarn they turned
into beautiful snowmen.
Thanks to Mrs. Dumville's sister, Elaine for the great idea.
The only sad part was that they had to melt.

January 30 - Febuary 3

We used hula hoops for a more interactive venn chart.
The children placed the animals into the circle under the book
it was in. Notice the hedgehog was in the overlap since he was in both
books!

"The Hat" wall display with the outcomes posted.

Each student completed a guided writing response for The Mitten and The Hat.
The Mitten responses were made into a book. The Hat responses are posted in the hallway.
We are working on finger spacing between words and using lowercase letters.
There is also a story sack that is being sent home about both stories.
Enjoy!

The hedgehog was in both stories The Mitten and The Hat.
So we decided that he should be made and displayed
on the Art Wall!

Finding pairs of mittens with numbers and hooking on that many links.
Great for fine motor, number recognition and math concepts!

Using magnifying glasses to match big and very tiny pictures.

Now, I see who stole the cookies from the cookie jar!

Mr. MacDonald, reads every day six to Kindergarten A and B.
Llama Llama Red Pajama! was a hit!

This block structure was left standing and then R added onto it.

Here A created the world. The blue represents the water
and the green is the land. Great work, A!

The dress up clothes are great for the imagination and
encourages cooperation. The children help each other
get into the clothing.

A few minutes to enjoy books before we go outside!
